| Although I work in both paintings and assemblage, my love affair with color and movement is witnessed only through my paintings. I want my paintings to evoke participation. In the Treescape series, I want the viewer to be plunged into the scene by the simple act of viewing. He or she should be compelled and propelled into the painting by the colors and shapes themselves . . . . For me to consider a painting successful, it must provoke a response, even if the response is the question "I wonder why he did that?" Ron, a New Orleans native (from the westbank neighborhood of Harvey) began his art career in the early 1970s French Quarter, designing both rock concert posters for The Warehouse and layouts for the Sears catalog. He also did graphics and illustration for In Your Ear, a New Orleans entertainment guide. He then started Prime Garphics with colleagues from Harry Maronne's graphic design studio, later evolving into Sunshine Graphics which he ran for 15 years, collecting numerous graphic design awards. He also served as Director of the New Orleans Graphic Design Association at this time. A resident of Pensacola, FL since 1987, Ron was art director for the early Pensacola Magazine in the late 1980s published by Pensacola Engraving Co. He attended McCrady School of Art in New Orleans as well as the University of New Orleans Dept. of Art in the late 1960s after first attending LSU as a civil engineering major. Ron's work can be seen periodically at Artel Gallery in Pensacola, FL, where his work has won Best of Show and multiple other awards, as well as art shows in the southeast. He is a member of Artel Gallery and Blue Morning Gallery, an artists-owned co-op, in Pensacola, the Performing Arts Center in Foley, AL, the Eastern Shore Arts Center in Fairhope, AL, and the Arts Council of Northwest Florida. Ron also works closely with southeast area interior designers on commissions. Email him for information or availability of any work on these pages as well as for commissions. |

| Color is crucial in painting, but it is very hard to talk about. There is almost nothing you can say that holds up as a generalization, because it depends on too many factors . . . [including] the statement you're trying to make. -- Roy Lichtenstein | |||||||||||||||||||
